5 Things you need to pack for your trip to Sunwave Surfcamp
So you are coming to Sunwave Surf Camp, yay! It’s gonna be great!
Surf, volcanos, epic sunsets, parties & cool people… For sure it’s gonna be epic.
Thanks to airline fees for checked bags, nowadays every traveler is trying to pack lighter. Packing for any vacation can be tricky; so we thought we would help you out with our top 5 surf vacation must-haves
First things first: As with packing for any trip, be realistic about what you need for your destination and always pack light!
1. Hat
Probably the most important item to pack, it is HOT here, and the sun is strong, so to keep your head sunburnt free pack a good quality hat. Another thing to consider if your head is sensitive to the sun, or you want to keep super protected is a water hat, these attach under the chin so they don't fall off while you're surfing and will keep your face and head shaded while you're in the water.
2. Suitable clothing
Don't even think about packing high heels, business coats, hair straighteners, boots or anything you wear to the office....you're on holiday remember!
The island is very casual, even if you decide to go out partying you won't be in high heels or the likes, everyone is out in flip flops, jean shorts and nice singlet tops. During the winter months it does get colder in the evenings, so something warmer to throw on top is a good idea. See below a small list of clothing items not to forget
-
Lightweight clothing that can be layered
-
Long-sleeved tops for the afternoons (winter only)
-
Sweater or fleece jacket (only 1 required)
-
T-shirts and tank tops
-
Boardshorts/bikinis
-
Towel
-
Flip flops
3. Know before you go!
It doesn’t hurt to learn about the culture, environment, or customs that you will be visiting which will help you with your packing. Do some research about Fuerteventura, you will quickly find that it is a dessert/volcano island, there is a lot of dust, sun, and rocks. The beaches you will be surfing in are in the middle of a dessert with no shops or anything around so make sure to pack a bag that you can zip up and hide on the beach while you are out in the water.
4. Sunscreen, zinc & mosquito repellent
-
Sunscreen - over 30SPF, "waterproof"
-
Zinc Stick - for while you're surfing
-
Repellent - Up to 20 or 30 % DEET should be fine--no need for the military, extra strength melt-off-your-skin stuff.)
5. A water-resistant Duffel
A small water-resistant duffel is the perfect daypack for the beach or or when we go the more remote surf spots - Also handy for other island activities like volcano climbing! It will help keep your clothes and valuables dry and give you one less thing to worry about while you hunt for the perfect wave.
