Keeping it real: The ultimate surfer girls myth buster

Surfing is a sport with lots of media attention and wherever the media rocks up, things are getting a bit, ehmmm let’s say: twisted! You are probably as stoked about any surf movie and the latest epic surf photos published by our favorite brands as much as we are. But often in these sorts of things, female athleticism and real life experiences of what it is like to be a surfer girl is shoved under the carpet.

We’ve put together some of the major surfer girls myths inspired by all of our favourite lady sliders around the globe:

We always look amazing under the beach shower!

• Nope - squeezing out of a wetsuit, we also use all of our facial muscles, just like our male mates do. 

We always surf in cheeky bikinis!

• Not really - unless we constantly want our nipples out and collect our pants from our leash after every wave.

We love a good flirt at the pointbreak!

• Yaaa nope - we are in it for the surf, just as much as we hope the guy next to us is!

Pink or Turquoise? Colour it is for all of us!

• There is many of us girls and just like the guys our tastes and personalities differ from each other. Some like it black - some like it fluorescent tie-dye. But sure is, we are all a bit bored of only having the choice between pink and turquoise.

We are blond, American/ Australian and in our teens or twenties. 

• Nope. We are aunties, grannies, 30-somethings, pre-teens, German, Scottish, Zulu, b*****s, lovers, saints, mothers aaand so, so much more! 

We don’t know our sh**!

• And this is why we are inviting every random stranger on the beach, in the water, when strapping our boards on the car, when traveling with our gear, when buying a board, when reading the forecast etc. to explain every aspect of surfing to us again. Simply, nein.  General rule of thumb: We’re all in the same boat and let you know, if we fancy advice.
